Flu Cases Up in Texas

Maybe it's not just the effects of the New Year's Eve drinks that you're feeling today. Many people in East Texas are sick with something other than the "brown bottle flu" right now.

Flu cases are up in Texas. Emergency rooms from Dallas to Lufkin to Houston are saying they're seeing more flu cases right now, with fevers of 102 to 103 and that yucky, awful, achey feeling. And of course the other pleasantries associated with the flu that we don't need to mention.

With flu cases on the rise, what can be done?

Crockett and Houston Get Tornadoes on Christmas Day

Being a pure bred classic rocker, I decided to go non-traditional Christmas morning, and plop "A Very Brady Christmas" into the VCR.  Yes - you read accurately - "A Very Brady Christmas" and VCR in the same sentence!

Busy Travel Weekend Ahead in Texas

By Monday and Tuesday we'll be sitting comfortably around the Christmas tree, sipping egg nog with family and trying to figure out how in the world a Furby really works.

In the meantime, it's a big ole traffic jam! Today and tomorrow are two of the busiest travel days of the year.

Triple A estimates 7.7 million Texans will be traveling more than 50 miles from home between Saturday and January 1. Millions of packages are on their way too, but they may not get here by Christmas.

Gas Prices Fall Across East Texas

Have you driven by a Lufkin gas station lately and done a double take to make sure you’re not seeing things? Prices at some stations have dropped below the $3 mark. It seems odd to cheer for gas, but it kinda makes ya wanna say, “Woohoo!” Especially if you’re traveling for Christmas.

In mid to late November, gas prices in East Texas were about 15 cents higher than they are now. A gallon of gas averages about $3.10 in Texas, down from $3.25 around Thanksgiving.

What One Texas Politician Said in Aftermath of Newtown Tragedy [VIDEO]

On the streets yesterday speaking with folks about the Connecticut tragedy, six in ten that I spoke with, called the United States a permissive society.  Maybe.  I lean more towards a reactive culture.

The following may appear to be an insensitive comparison in wake of a lone gunman's heinous massacre, but by setting out to accomplish the goal, success has a better chance of sprouting.

Texans Break World Record With Frito Pie

I have to admit, I didn’t try the delicacy that is Frito pie until I moved to Texas. Growing up in Nebraska we sometimes mixed chili, cheese, and saltine crackers together, but the genius of replacing the Saltines with Fritos just didn’t occur to us.

Texans are onto something! Frito Pie is delicious, and who cares how fattening.

We Texans broke a Guiness World Record on Monday with a Frito Pie that weighed over a thousand pounds. Some states might be ashamed, but in Texas its a badge we wear proudly. We just may need a Tums to go with our badge.

Is Texas Losing the Drawl?

Are we losin’ our drawl y'all?

A new study says Texas may be losing its twang. Do you agree?

If it’s true, the obvious answer may be because of the number of transplants that live in Texas. When a Chicago native moves to Texas they bring a northern accent and a lot of those people together can sort of squeeze out and disperse the yee haws.

Lubbock Museum Kills Two Mules For Public Display

Here's a story buried in the depths of obscurity, that is sure to stir controversy, and have animal rights activists gearing up for a protest.  Of course, it won't help the steadfast wrangling of each parties position, now that I brought it to light.
