s the weather begins to change (Well in Texas drop from 99 to 90) the mindset of storefronts begin to change! Down go the last subtle hints of summer and up go the massive signs that Santa is coming to town. If you blink to quickly you will miss the aisle in the back corner that celebrates Halloween and Thanksgiving. Hobby Lobby begins to transform into a Winter wonderland sometime around the Middle of July. I've walked in to grab something for The 4th of July and walked out with a Christmas Tree.

We'll probably walk past a hundred Christmas trees this season and never know the full story behind each ornament. The ones that have been hand-made by a relative can probably tell an important story if we take the time to ask.

If you see a scarf hanging on a tree outside around Lufkin, or even inside the mall on one of those Christmas trees, it's no accident. There's meaning behind the scarves left lying around town, and those who find them "fitting" can keep them.

Imagine the surprise on your daughter's face when she opens up her new Fingerlings, and a few dozen bugs come rolling out of the wrapping paper. Ewww! If you've got a real tree, you might have 20,000 bugs hidden in there, but there is something you can do about it.

The Texas Forestry Association is holding its annual conference next week in Lufkin at the Pitser Garrison Conference Center, and speakers will cover everything from the economics of forests to conservation efforts. It's a landmark year.  This year marks the 100th year that the group has been in existence.
