Multiple Man probably isn’t high on your list of “X-Men characters most likely to get their own standalone movies,” but Fox executives seem to think otherwise. Franchise producer and writer Simon Kinberg is teaming up with James Franco for an upcoming movie based on the Marvel mutant, who has often crossed paths with the X-Men and the Fantastic Four (although we assume the latter group remains off the table for the foreseeable future).

The X-Men’s film future is far from over, but mutants are only just getting started on TV. Meet Blink, Polaris, Thunderbird and more in a full six-minute clip from FOX’s The Gifted, ahead of next week’s premiere.

X-Men: Days of Future Past was great; X-Men: Apocalypse was kind of meh. But in both cases the highlight was the same: Quicksilver, played by Evan Peters performing an incredible super-speed rescue (filmed in super slo-motion with cool music and lots of effects.

Keeping the series of films featuring or tangentially related to the X-Men straight has become a task on par with reading Bleak House. The original three films from the 2000s were their own thing, at first independent of the rebooted X-Men: First Class set in the past. But they were then woven into the “present” with Days of Future Past and Apocalypse, which happen to be set in both timelines and physical dimensions. All this operates separately from Logan and Wolverine’s other solo films, and while Deadpool technically is set in the main universe, it can’t really bring in any of the major pre-existing characters due to intellectual property complications, so it might as well be an isolated entity as well. It’s a lot to keep track of, to put it mildly.

By now, everyone knows that Logan is Hugh Jackman’s last go-round as Wolverine. It’s tough to see him go — he’s arguably the protagonist of the original X-Men trilogy and was always a welcome presence in the new crop of movies, but he’s a big star now, and Logan is a tone-perfect way to round out his career as that character. Now, the question becomes: who, if anyone, will take his place? The X-Men series will still continue for at least one more movie, and there are a number of spinoffs in the works, so Wolverine will have to reappear somehow, right?

In what is hardly surprising news at all, there is post-credits scene attached to Wolverine’s latest (and last) outing, and though we don’t know what it is just yet, it probably won’t be long before someone lets the cat out of the bag. Until then, feel free to speculate away.
