Texas Forest Service Elevates Fire Danger Heading Into the 4th

It seems like there's always concern in Texas about fireworks around the 4th of July, and how those mix with what's usually extreme heat and little rain.

This year things are better than in years past, with the grass a little greener than usual, and weather that's slightly cooler this week.  Are bans in place?

There are no bans right now, but the Texas Forest Service has increased the fire danger warning from low to moderate. That means the danger of fire spreading has increased, because of conditions like weather and dryness.

If you are shooting off fireworks in places where it's legal, the Forest Service says don't do it near the house or if dry grass is around, and you should also have a hose nearby in case you a spark gets out of control.  Fireworks are prohibited in the National Forests and Grasslands in Texas.

Lufkin's fireworks display sponsored by Mike Love and Associates will be at Ellen Trout Park at 9:15 p.m., but there will be other events going on all day at the Zoo.  As we mentioned on a previous blog, the zoo will be open and the train will be running, plus there will be a climbing wall and plenty of other activities to keep you and the kids busy.  It all starts at 1 p.m.

Live entertainment hits the stage at 5 p.m., with the “extravaganza” getting underway around 9:15 p.m.  Dan Patrick, will be broadcasting live updates from the park on our sister station KAFX 95.5 and it's all sponsored by Mike Love and Associates Law Firm.
