Texas Is a Step Closer to an Open Carry Law
A year from now you could be walking down the street and see someone walking next to you, carrying a handgun in a holster.
Here's what has to happen first.
State lawmakers in Austin have approved an open carry law that would allow anyone with a concealed handgun permit to carry openly in public as well. The House of Representatives approved the bill Friday, and the Senate has already said yes to a similar version. Once the two chambers approved matching versions, the bill will go to the Governor to be signed into law.
Another bill that would allow students to get a concealed weapons permit and carry guns on campus, is also making its way through the process in Austin. The Senate has already approved a version, and the House is expected to send its version through as well.
