We’ve not yet seen how Kevin Smith will fare in directing his first Flash episode “The Runaway Dinosaur,” but already Season 3 is banking on the Mallrats creator for a speedy return. Ahead of next week’s ante-penultimate Season 2 hour, The Flash confirms Smith will return to direct in Season 3.

ComicBook.com confirmed with Warner Bros. TV that Smith would return for a Season 3 episode, most likely before midseason, given that production resumes in July. No word yet if Jay and Silent Bob partner Jason Mewes will be back for the ride, given his not one, but two appearances in next week’s outing.

As far as Season 2, so reads the official synopsis for Smith’s first Zack Stentz-written hour:

“THE RUNAWAY DINOSAUR”

KEVIN SMITH DIRECTS – With Barry (Grant Gustin) gone, the team must figure out a way to handle the return of an old enemy – Girder (guest star Greg Finley).  Realizing Girder is retracing his steps from his last attack, Iris (Candice Patton) volunteers to act as bait to trap him in S.T.A.R. Labs.  Meanwhile, Barry fights to return to his old life.

In the meantime, The Flash will continue to explore the fallout of Barry’s big showdown with Zoom, saving an Arrow return and an ironclad revelation for its final Season 2 episodes.
