22 Artists Eligible for 2018 Induction Into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
The dust has settled for the most part on the 2017 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony for the class of 2017, which saw Pearl Jam, Journey and Electric Light Orchestra among others get into the hallowed Hall. With a whole year ahead of us, now is as good a time a time as any to start thinking about next year’s event, and the fresh faces who are now eligible. We've created a gallery of 22 artists who could conceivably be on the upcoming ballot for the first time.
Entry requirements, according to the Hall's website, state that artists “become eligible for induction 25 years after the release of their first record. Besides demonstrating unquestionable musical excellence and talent, inductees will have had a significant impact on the development, evolution and preservation of rock & roll.”
That means any artist who released their first EP or album in 1993 will be up for induction when the nominations come out for the class of 2018 toward the end of this year. That year saw a number of new bands grab a hold of the coattails created by the grunge explosion and ride them to mainstream success. And while many of them flickered and burned out quickly, others went on to incredibly successful careers where they defied expectations by challenging fans with every successive record.
