‘Boondock Saints: Origins’ TV Series Teases Fan Campaign, 2018 Premiere
The Boondock Saints counts itself among the cult classics that never transitioned to memorable sequels, but – In Nomeni Patri – they’re going to keep that franchise alive. Following writer-director Troy Duffy’s 2015 attempt at a TV series, a new Boondock Saints: Origins project is gaining traction with Don Carmody Television.
Last we heard, IM Global Television had acquired rights the 1999 film, hiring Duffy to write and direct a prequel series with co-producer Don Carmody, and potentially stars Norman Reedus and Sean Patrick Flannery. Now, a new “BoondocksBack” website announces a “fan-focused pre-order campaign” (h/t IGN) for early access to the series on digital download and DVD, as well as “exclusive access to behind-the-scenes content, merchandise, and a limited edition subscription box.”
Here’s a not-at-all uncomfortable video announcement from original star David Della Rocco:
Of course, if you read the video’s fine print, you’ll see “The Boondock Saints: Origins TV Series, premiere and merchandise subject to development and are not guaranteed.” Here’s a statement from Duffy:
A television series is the perfect medium for story telling inside the world of our beloved blue collar super heroes. The brothers have always been defenders of the people, justice, fairness and the city of Boston. In this sensitive time of human rights unrest, government scandal and civil corruption, there couldn’t be a better moment to re-launch the brothers iconic brand of justice in the Cradle of Democracy.
Rocco claims in the video that the world premiere of The Boondock Saints: Origins will be held on March 17, 2018, but stay tuned for further details, and watch the original film’s trailer below.
