City of Onalaska Cancels July 4th Fireworks Extravaganza
What is one thing that automatically comes to mind when you think about the 4th of July? I can almost guarantee that the vast majority of you said "fireworks". I mean, that's what comes to my mind, because I grew up setting off fireworks on July 4th. Lots of us did.
However, this year, firework shows might be changed up a little...or changed up A LOT, in some cases. That's what's happening for the City of Onalaska. The announcement was made in a post earlier today - May 14th - on the City of Onalaska Facebook page, that the decision had been made to cancel this year's Annual July 4th Fireworks Extravaganza.
If you think that's not a big deal, you need to realize this: that particular fireworks show in Onalaska has been going on consecutively for 44 years...FORTY. FOUR. YEARS. But this year - not just due to COVID-19, but also due to last month's tornado that tore through the city - they made the decision to cancel the event.
This was the post from the City of Onalaska Facebook page:
I get it. I mean, this year, there are lots of things going on that we can't control. The pandemic, the crazy weather, it's all up in the air. And, we're having to adapt to things that we've never had to deal with before. Unfortunately, that means that some things have to be changed, some things have to be postponed, and - as we see here - some things have to go away...
But, hopefully it'll all be able to go back to normal next year, and the city will be able to bring back the fireworks extravaganza again! And actually, I'm hoping that ALL of the normal things will make a comeback!
