Two Deep East Texas BBQ Spots Make This Year’s Top List
There's just something about barbeque that's ingrained into the DNA of Texans. It's like our love for Buc-ee's or Dr Pepper. We're just drawn to it. That's why one of our local Texas magazines, Texas Monthly, dedicates an entire edition to it. Every year they feature the Top 50 BBQ Joints in Texas. Out of all the barbeque restaurants in Texas, only the top 50 make it to that list. This year, Deep East Texas had the honor of having not one, but two BBQ joints making that list.
Brendyn's BBQ - Nacogdoches
Location: 601 East Main Street, Nacogdoches, TX
Brendyn's BBQ has been in Nacogdoches since 2018, but has only been at this particular brick and mortar location since 2020. They feature all your traditional BBQ staples (brisket, ribs, sausage, etc.), but they also feature unique items. Pro-tip: Order a "Pig Apple" with a side of Jalapeno Cream Corn. You can thank me later.

Mimsy's Craft Barbecue - Crockett
Location: 1979 S 5th Street, Crockett, TX
Mimsy's Craft Barbecue came on the scene in 2020 as well, when owners Wade and Kathy Elkins moved back to Crockett to open up their own barbecue restaurant. This is another barbeque place where you can go the traditional route, but they are always featuring and adding unique items to the menu. Pro-tip: Follow them on Facebook to see what they are featuring.
Why Just Have One?
Either one of these is a solid choice, and since they're both right in Deep East Texas, it's not a long commute to either restaurant. Both are worth the trip. Now that they've both made the Texas Monthly list, I'm looking forward to seeing them on it for years to come.
