Back to School in Deep East Texas: The Stores Offering the Best Deals on Supplies

As hard as it is to believe, we are coming up on the beginning of the 2026-27 school year. Some of our Deep East Texas schools start as early as August 3rd! With that being said, if you haven't at least started buying school supplies, you might want to consider doing that soon. I've tried to make it at least somewhat easier by finding out where you can save the most money on school supplies.

TeacherLists has Lots of School District Supply Lists

If you haven't heard, there's a nifty website called TeacherLists, where you can search through school supply lists from all school districts across the nation - if they've been uploaded. They also have the option of you putting all of the supplies into carts on digital shopping sites like Amazon, Target, Walmart, etc., paying out immediately and having the supplies shipped to you. Keep in mind, not all districts have posted their lists, so you'll just have to see if your students district has their lists up.

For the purpose of this post, I used the seventh-grade list for Lufkin Middle School students. They have their basic list of what all students will need. According to TeacherLists, these are the required supplies:

• 2 Boxes of #2 Pencils
• 2 Yellow Highlighters
• 4 Rolls of Transparent Tape
• 2 Boxes of Colored Pencils
• 8 Glue Sticks
• 2 Expo Dry Erase Markers

• 1 Zipper Pencil Pouch or Pencil Box
• 1 Set of Blue or Black Pens
• 1 Pair of Headphones with Aux Cord
• 1 Wide-Ruled Composition Notebook (for ELA)
• 1 Wide-Ruled Composition Notebook, 3 Subjects (for Science)
• 1 Plastic Pocket Folder with Prongs/Brads (for ELA)
• 1 Plastic Pocket Folder with Prongs/Brads (for Math)
• 1 Plastic Pocket Folder with Prongs/Brads (for Social Studies)
• 1 Wide-Ruled Spiral Notebook
• 1 Box of Ziploc Brand Gallon Storage Size
• 2 Wide-Ruled Composition Notebooks (for Social Studies)
