Country legend Johnny Cash has been linked with heavy music since he recorded Glenn Danzig's "Thirteen" in 1994; after that, he covered Soundgarden's "Rusty Cage" and Nine Inch Nails' "Hurt." DevilDriver have returned the favor, discharging a triumphant and punishing version of the Cash classic, "Ghost Riders in the Sky," enlisting Lamb of God singer Randy Blythe and members of the Cash family.

The cover (heard above) is radically different than the original, eschewing the pitter patter of delicate acoustic guitar strumming in favor of gleaming melodies and forceful galloping rhythms with vocal tradeoffs from DevilDriver's Dez Fafara and Blythe. John Carter Cash and Ana Cristina, Johnny's son and daughter-in-law, respectively, can also be heard on the song.

"My love for outlaw country is the same for my love for punk rock," Fafara recently told Full Metal Jackie. "I grew up on punk rock and I grew up on psychobilly. The first band I was in when I was 15 was psychobilly bands," he said, later adding, "The music was interpreted by the guys in the band and I think they did an incredible job. And they each had their own individual way of what they wanted to do."

Outlaws Till the End features metallic version of other classic outlaw country anthems from Willie Nelson, David Allan Coe, Hank Williams Jr., Hank Williams III and more. The record will be out on July 6 through Napalm Records and can be pre-ordered here.
