Did you know that the Winnie Berry Humane Society of Angelina County is a no-kill shelter.  Through the years, hundreds, if not thousands of dogs and cats have been paired with their forever families thanks to the shelter in Lufkin.  Every Friday on KICKS 105's Merrell in the Morning Show, we feature our Pet of the Week.  Through that portal, a number of dogs and cats have also been adopted.
I've learned through these visits with some of the animal techs at Winnie Berry that it takes a lot of donations for the daily operations at the shelter.  The food, kitty litter, cleaning supplies, visits to the vet, and much, much more adds up quickly.  There are many folks in the area who do step up and make monetary or material donations.  It's very much appreciated, but it definitely falls short of the overall need.  That's why it's imperative that fundraising events, such as the upcoming Dog Days of Summer Golf Tournament are successful.

This year's event is coming up on June 18 at Crown Colony Country Club in Lufkin.  What a great way to raise money for the shelter...by playing golf.  First, we've been cooped up thanks to the pandemic, and now the rain won't let us come out and play.  Thankfully (with fingers crossed), the forecast for that Friday is looking better than what we've been experiencing.
The Dog Days of Summer Tourney is a four-man scramble with a shot-gun start at 1:00 pm. There will be cash prize contests, including Beat the Pro, as well as hole-in-one prizes with a chance to win a 2021 Toyota RAV4, courtesy of Loving Toyota.  Lunch will be provided as well.
