Original Foreigner singer Lou Gramm was hospitalized last week with a severe respiratory infection, dehydration and fatigue. The ailments have forced the musician to drop out of Foreigner's upcoming "Double Vision: Then & Now" tour, where he was set to perform alongside current and former members of the band.

Instead, doctors orders have curbed Gramm's participation in the tour. However, the shows will continue without him. See a statement from the band explaining Gramm's absence toward the bottom of this post.

"Lou Gramm was hospitalized at the Unity Hospital at Park Ridge in Rochester, NY last week with a severe respiratory infection, dehydration and fatigue," the band revealed Tuesday (Oct. 1). "He had hoped to be ready to appear during the Foreigner 'Double Vision: Then & Now' tour, and some scheduled shows with Asia. Unfortunately, at his follow up appointment today, his doctor pronounced him unable to perform at these shows."

"I'm very disappointed about not being able to perform at the Foreigner 'Double Vision: Then & Now' show for all the fans," Gramm offered in an accompanying statement. "My doctor insists if I pushed myself to perform, I would be in big trouble. So doctor's orders, I ride the bench. Rock on!"

As reported by Ultimate Classic Rock, the "Double Vision: Then & Now" shows combine Foreigner's current lineup (which includes guitarist Mick Jones) with three original members (Gramm, Al Greenwood and Ian MacDonald) along with Rick Willis, who played bass in the band from 1979 to 1991.

Although the tour, comprised of four U.S. concerts between Oct. 3 and Oct. 13, will continue without Gramm, the group is still offering refunds (redeemable at the point of purchase) to disappointed fans.
