Fully Vaccinated Governor Greg Abbott Tests Positive for COVID-19

Add Texas Governor Greg Abbott to the list of persons fully vaccinated against COVID-19 who have now tested positive for the virus.  These 'breakthrough' cases make up a small percentage of positive tests, and most scientific reports show that the majority of those fully vaccinated individuals end up having less severe symptoms than those who are not vaccinated against COVID-19.

The statement concerning Governor Abbott's positive result and his condition was released today on the official page of the Office of the Texas Governor.  Communications Director Mark Miner issued the following statement:

"Governor Greg Abbott today tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. The Governor has been testing daily, and today was the first positive test result. Governor Abbott is in constant communication with his staff, agency heads, and government officials to ensure that state government continues to operate smoothly and efficiently. The Governor will isolate in the Governor's Mansion and continue to test daily. Governor Abbott is receiving Regeneron's monoclonal antibody treatment.

"Governor Abbott is fully vaccinated against COVID-19, in good health, and currently experiencing no symptoms. Everyone that the Governor has been in close contact with today has been notified. Texas First Lady Cecilia Abbott tested negative."

According to the most recent stats released by the Texas Department of State Health Services, in the past 24 hours over 20,000 new cases of COVID-19 have been reported across the state with over 4,000 probable cases.  No new fatalities have been reported in the past 48 hours.
