Sad news to report on Christmas Day, as pop star George Michael died today at the age of 53. No cause of death was revealed, but the singer is said to have "passed away peacefully at home" in England.

Michael first made a name for himself in the group Wham! with hits like "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go," "Everything She Wants" and "Careless Whisper" (also considered a solo single) and then went on to solo success with such hits as "Faith," "Father Figure," "I Want Your Sex" and "Freedom '90." His song "Faith" was famously covered by Limp Bizkit in the late '90s, and it helped put the nu-metal band on the map. However, it's been reported that Michael hated the cover.

According to the BBC, an ambulance arrived at Michael's home in Oxfordshire, England, on Christmas afternoon (Dec. 25), and while no cause of death has been revealed, there was no suspicious activity detected.

The singer's publicist states, "It is with great sadness that we can confirm our beloved son, brother and friend George passed away peacefully at home over the Christmas period. The family would ask that their privacy be respected at this difficult and emotional time. There will be no further comment at this stage."

Our deepest condolences go out to George Michael's family and friends. See both his and Limp Bizkit's versions of "Faith," as well as some rocker reactions to his death, below.
