You think playing guitar while singing is hard? Try being a vocalist behind a drum kit! These are our picks for the 10 Greatest Singing Drummers in Hard Rock + Metal.

A singing drummer is still somewhat of an anomaly in music, enough that you seriously take notice when you see it live. We’ve got some serious pioneers in this Loud List such as Queen’s Roger Taylor, who was able to shine as a vocalist even next to perhaps the greatest frontman of all time in Freddie Mercury. You’ll also see longtime Blue Oyster Cult drummer Joe Bouchard, who provided memorable vocals with the band for 15 years.

You’ll see some modern masters of the percussion / vocal combo in this list as well. Mastodon’s Brann Dailor hasn’t just given us some of the 21st century’s most inventive drumming, he’s also acted as one of Mastodon’s four vocalists. Dailor really shines on cuts like “Dry Bone Valley” and “Oblivion,” so leaving him off this list would have been a crime.

Avenged Sevenfold’s dearly departed drummer, The Rev, also made our list. Fans don’t have to be convinced of his somewhat underrated vocal abilities, but you’ll see him at his best performing “A Little Piece of Heaven” with Avenged.
