Will Nacogdoches Ever Give Up On H-E-B?
For years, the people of Nacogdoches - myself included - have been waiting on H-E-B to make its way back to town. It's gotten so bad that anytime there is any new construction taking place, the joke is that, "Oh, that's the new H-E-B finally coming back!" It could be a 10x10 storage shed, but Facebook is going to light up with the same joke.
Nacogdoches Actually Had an H-E-B at One Point
Once upon a time, the grocery store chain was in Nacogdoches. It was located on University Drive, in what is now a Brookshire Brothers. That was a while back, though. So far back, in fact, that even if you go back as far as possible on Google Maps, you won't even see H-E-B, and that goes back to 2008. I'm not sure how long H-E-B left before that...
You see, when H-E-B left, Brookshire Brothers moved into that location, and Walmart Neighborhood Market eventually moved into the previous Brookshire Brothers location, and it's still there today.

Are the People In Nacogdoches Ready to Give Up On H-E-B's Return Completely?
Like I said, it's gotten to be a running joke about the return of H-E-B to Nacogdoches. It's always on Facebook, and you see that lots of people get legitimately frustrated with the overdone joke. So, does that mean that the Nacogdoches population is finally moving on?
I think that the short answer is yes AND no. There are a lot of people that have decided that it'll never happen. However, there are those that are holding out that unwavering hope that one day, Nacogdoches will once again be able to claim a branch of H-E-B, without having to drive to Lufkin...
If we're being honest, I'm still holding on to a bit of that hope myself.
