Where Were the Fishing Teams When I Was in School?
When I was in school, we had what I would consider the basic set of sports: Football, Basketball, Baseball, Softball, Track, and Cross Country. At some point, power lifting was added in there. But that was it.
But now, there's one sport that has come on the scene in a big way. No, I'm not talking golf...and I'm definitely not referring to "e-sports". I'm talking about fishing. Yes, there are high schoolers, TONS of them, that are getting the chance to compete in tournaments against other students on the lake! And these kids are good. They have jerseys, sponsors, all the cool gear, you name it!
Not only do the students get all these things now, but they also have something to aim for - there are college teams! Ask SFA...I hear theirs is pretty legitimate.
Deep East Texas Should Dominate the Fishing Scene
If there's one thing that Deep East Texas could dominate in, I'm thinking it could be fishing. We have access to multiple lakes - Toledo Bend, Sam Rayburn, Livingston, Naconiche, Nacogdoches...the list goes on. Plus, there are tons of ponds EVERYWHERE (you know, for practice!).

Also, the weather is generally great for fishing. Yes, we have the occasional winter freeze, but that's about it. It does get hot here, but that's a great time to be out on the lake!
How Many of You Missed Out on the High School Fishing Team?
Like I said, my school had the basic sports, because of its small size. So there is a chance that high school fishing was a thing, and I just didn't know about it. However, I don't think that's the case. I think that it's shown up - somewhat - recently.
What about you guys? Was there a fishing team when you were in school? Were you on it?
