Photos Capture Wild Hog Damage at SFA Gardens

Hogs can cause damage to so many things. Usually - USUALLY - they don't make their way into the city limits. However, the city of Nacogdoches has recently been seeing a bigger hog problem, specifically in the SFA Gardens.

SFA Gardens Sees Increase in Hog Damage

If you've kept up with the SFA Gardens Facebook page, then you know that the staff members are fairly used to seeing hog damage on their property. Up until now the worst has been in the Jimmy Hinds Park on Austin Street, specifically in the Muscadine Vineyard. The hogs would get into the enclosure to get to the muscadines. Then, they had some pretty extensive damage in the Pineywoods Native Plant Center on Raguet Street.

Now, the hogs have moved to the Ruby M. Mize Azalea Garden on University Drive. Take a look at some pictures of the damage below:

As you can see, the hogs have done a fair amount of damage through the gardens. When I got there this morning to take pictures of the damage, there was a lady that was getting out of her car to take a walk, and she came over to me and said, "I just want you to know that when I turned in here this morning there was a whole herd of wild hogs that took off running, so you better keep an eye out."

So, these hogs aren't afraid of being right in the middle of town. And, considering that the ways of getting rid of them are limited, since it's within the city limits - meaning that you can't use firearms and things like that to handle the problem - there's no telling how they'll need to deal with this problem in the SFA Gardens.
