Over the past couple of months we've seen lots of stories about the Netflix series 'Tiger King'. Joe Exotic had so many tigers, and it seemed that they were all pretty well taken care of.

Well, that started my thinking process - because that's how my mind works - about how well Nacogdoches would do with a tiger sanctuary like that...

Think about it: Lufkin has the Ellen Trout Zoo, there's the Grapeland Safari in Grapeland, Tyler has the Tiger Creek Animal Sanctuary AND the Caldwell Zoo...but Nacogdoches doesn't have anything like that...

It's not like Nac doesn't have the space for it. I mean, come on, there are lots of open lots all around the loop, not too mention some pretty big open spaces just outside of the loop. Any of these could - potentially - do for a good zoo-like place.

Also, there should be a good amount of traffic through the area, so you wouldn't have to worry about making enough money to keep the doors open and the operations running. You have a vast amount of college students for several months out of the year, plus a lot of families come through Nacogdoches on vacation trips.

In my mind, I think that a tiger sanctuary, or something similar to a zoo would do fairly well in the oldest town in Texas.

*DISCLAIMER: I DON'T HAVE A BIOLOGY BACKGROUND, NOR HAVE I DONE THE RESEARCH ON ANY OF THIS, SO MY OPINIONS ARE JUST THAT...OPINIONS. YOU'LL HAVE TO ASK THE EXPERTS WHETHER A PROJECT LIKE THIS WOULD BE A GOOD FIT FOR NACOGDOCHES OR NOT...*

What are your thoughts on all of this? Would Nacogdoches do well with a tiger sanctuary? Or, would it do better with something similar to a zoo, with all of the different types of animals? Or, does it not need anything like that? Let us know in the comment section below!
