Construction Begins on New Nacogdoches Movie Theater

By now, I'm sure you've all seen the posts about the new Nacogdoches movie theater. For those of you who aren't familiar with it, the first story that we posted about it was when the Nacogdoches City Council was considering entering into an agreement with Icon Cinemas back in April. Spoiler alert: The agreement was approved. Since then, we've just been keeping an eye on the property, waiting on things to start moving. Well, it's finally happening.

Construction Begins on Icon Cinemas in Nacogdoches

For months, nothing was really changing at the old movie theater in the Northview Plaza. Then, just a couple of weeks ago, construction crews began making their way into the space. They began the process of completely gutting the old theater.

When I walked by the theater the other day, this is what I saw:

Construction Begins on Icon Cinemas in Nacogdoches

The space where AMC theaters used to be in the Northview Plaza has been sitting vacant since the doors closed in 2024. Now, construction has begun to renovate that space in order to reopen as Icon Cinemas. Here's a quick look at how the construction is going so far:

Yes, there's still a long way to go before anyone will be able to go see a movie on the big screens of this theater. However, now that construction has begun, it's exciting to know that Nacogdoches having a complete movie theater is going to be a reality once again.

No Definitive Opening Dates Yet

As of right now, there haven't been any announcements on construction timelines or estimated opening dates for the new theater. Icon cinemas hasn't even listed the Nacogdoches location as "Coming Soon" on their website yet.

Until then, we'll just be keeping an eye on the space, and getting ready to welcome back a full-size movie theater back to Nac!
