Man Drives Off Palo Duro Canyon Cliff in Texas and Walks Away for Help
Every now and then, a story pops up in Texas that makes you stop mid-scroll and think, there’s no way someone survived that.
This is one of those stories.
A driver in the Texas Panhandle somehow went over the edge of Palo Duro Canyon, one of the largest and most rugged canyons in the entire United States. If you’ve ever visited this place, you know exactly why that sentence alone is enough to make your stomach drop.
Palo Duro Canyon: The Grand Canyon of Texas
Located just outside Amarillo, Palo Duro Canyon is often called the “Grand Canyon of Texas.” It stretches roughly 120 miles long and in some spots drops hundreds of feet deep with sharp cliffs and winding roads carved through the canyon walls.
It’s also one of the most beautiful places in the state.
But beauty aside, it’s not the kind of place where you expect someone to drive off the edge and live to tell the story. Yet that’s exactly what happened.
The Wildest Part of the Story
According to reports, the crash happened on Monday afternoon when a vehicle went over the canyon’s edge. But here’s the part that sounds almost unbelievable.
The driver actually managed to get out of the vehicle and walk to the Mack Dick Pavilion inside the park to get help. Think about that for a second.
A man goes over a canyon cliff… climbs out… and walks until he finds people. Emergency crews later transported the driver to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

One Lucky Texan
I’ve seen photos of Palo Duro Canyon, and it’s breathtaking. But it’s also the kind of place that reminds you nature doesn’t mess around.
Driving off the edge of a canyon usually ends very differently.
This time, though, it sounds like someone upstairs decided this guy still had a little more Texas left to live. He definitely needs to buy some lottery tickets.
