There’s something uniquely painful about seeing gas prices shoot back over 4 bucks a gallon in Texas…right as road trip season kicks into gear. Convenient right? Lake trips, concerts, camping weekends, family vacations, random “let’s go to the Hill Country” adventures…yeah, all of that just got a whole lot more expensive.

Texas Gas Prices Are Climbing Again

According to recent reports from AAA Texas and regional outlets, some parts of Texas are once again seeing gas prices creep above the $4 mark, something we really haven’t felt since the insanity of 2022. Texas statewide averages have jumped in recent weeks, and drivers are definitely noticing it every time they pull up to the pump.

And let’s be honest…this hits Texans differently.

We don’t exactly live in a state where everything is a quick five-minute drive. In Texas, a “short trip” somehow turns into 90 miles, two gas station stops, beef jerky, and somebody saying, “Since we’re already out here…” before adding another hour to the drive.

The Last Time Gas Prices Felt This Bad

The last time Texans really dealt with gas prices consistently hovering around this level was back in 2022, and nobody was exactly eager for a sequel. Unfortunately, here we are again…just in time for summer travel season. Again, super convenient, right?

Still, Texans are gonna Texas. We’ll complain about gas prices the entire way to the lake…and then immediately start planning the next trip anyway.

Truck owners? Oof. SUV drivers? Double oof.

Folks with lifted rigs and Broncos? Yeah…we’re out here watching the gas pump numbers climb like it’s a slot machine from hell.

I’ve already noticed people driving slower, using cruise control more, and suddenly becoming really interested in gas rewards programs. Funny how that happens when filling up starts feeling like a small car payment.

Speaking of roadtrips, here are some great places in Texas to hit the road this spring and summer.
