These East Texas Teams Are In The High School Volleyball Rankings

The Texas Girls Coaches Association has released its latest rankings of girls volleyball teams from Class 1A through 6A. Quite a few squads from Deep East Texas and into the Tyler/Longview area made those rankings. Let's take a look at the area teams that received recognition.

Class 6A and 5A Volleyball Rankings

• Tyler Legacy is ranked #10 in Class 6A. The Red Raiders have a 16-3 record. Last year, Legacy advanced to the 2nd round of the playoffs.
• Longview is ranked #23 in Class 5A with an impressive 19-4 record. Last year, the Lobos competed at the 6A level. Longview is hoping a drop in classification might give them an edge in making this year's playoffs.

Class 3A Volleyball Rankings

• Tatum is ranked fifth in the state in Class 3A. They have a 23-4 record and have their sights set on another deep playoff run. Last year, the Eagles made it to the 3rd round of the playoffs.
• Palestine Westwood comes in at #7 in this week's rankings. The team has put up a huge turnaround from last season when they finished 11-23. This year, Westwood has a record of 18-5.
• Central Heights is ranked number 9 in the state with a record of 19-4. The Lady Blue Devils were area champs a year ago, and they are hoping to advance even further this year.
• Onalaska is #23 in the Class 3A rankings. Their 17-6 record already matches their win total from a year ago.

Class 2A Volleyball Rankings

• Two things you can count on when it comes to Beckville volleyball. They will probably win their district, and they will have a 3rd-round playoff showdown with Iola. The Bearcats are ranked #9 in the state with a record of 21-5. By the way, Iola is the top-ranked team in the state, so another Beckville/Iola showdown this year seems to be a good bet.
• Overton is ranked 11th in the state with a record of 18-4. The Mustangs are in the same district as Beckville, so they will try to have their say in the district championship.
• The Garrison Bulldogs come in at number 18 in the Class 2A rankings. They were district and area champs last season. They have a record of 12-7.
