Is Snow Really in the Friday Forecast for East Texas?
We have had quite a mixed bag of weather in East Texas over the past several months.
This past summer was marked by drought and heat and the subsequent burn bans. Then we saw some flooding and severe storms on Labor Day Weekend. We followed that up with over a month of no rain and the re-issuing of burn bans.
Oh, let's not forget about the recent tornadoes that caused major damage in northeast Texas and southeast Oklahoma. Since that time, we seem to have skipped fall and advanced straight into winter.
When Will it Get Warmer?
It may be a while. Reinforcing waves of cold air are expected to take aim at Texas for the next several days. In fact, things could get a little interesting when Friday night rolls around.
Snow? Really?
A chance of precipitation will enter the Lufkin/Nacogdoches forecast by late Friday night. As of now, that precipitation is expected to be a cold rain across the Pineywoods as the low temperatures for Friday night should dip to the upper 30s.
However, as you head just a little to our northwest, areas such as Palestine to Athens to D/FW may see some flurries and light snow. No accumulations are expected.
Deep East Texas is not expected to see any flakes fly, but I wouldn't be surprised to hear of some reports of flurries in parts of the Pineywoods.

No, we are not heading for an early-season snowstorm. As for the rest of the winter...who knows?
