High school basketball season is well underway across Deep East Texas, and many area teams have started out hot.  The girls' and boys' teams at Hudson High School are undefeated through a combined eleven games.  Likewise, both varsity teams at Dallardsville Big Sandy have put up nothing but wins so far in the season.

Elsewhere, the Lufkin Panthers have started off hot with 3 straight wins including a victory over College Park who is ranked in the top 20 in Class 6A. Meanwhile, the Douglass Boys are off to a stellar 7-0 mark.

It's still very early in the season, but a number of teams across the Pineywoods are getting recognized in their respective classifications.  Here's a look at some of the area boys' teams that are ranked in the top 25 according to the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Hoops Page.

In Class 5A, the Lufkin Panthers have cracked the top ten with their hot start to the season.  In Class 3A, the Diboll Lumberjacks will open their season ranked 9th in the state, meanwhile, Crockett is at #11, and Central Heights is ranked 21. In Class 2A, Timpson (6), Douglass (9), and Dallardsville Big Sandy (8) have all managed a spot in the top ten. In Class 1A, the Martinsville Pirates check in at #12 in the state while Brookeland is at #24.

In girl's basketball, the Hudson Lady Hornets are at #20 in Class 4A after their perfect 6-0 start. In Class 3A, Central Heights is at #12. Elsewhere, Tenaha (10), Chireno (12), Woden (22), Douglass (23), and Big Sandy (24) are ranked in Class 2A.
