Lufkin Police Identify Kurth Lake Drowning Victim
Clay Thomas Legg, 64, Was Found By Divers Near His Boat
No Foul Play is Suspected in This Drowning
The Lufkin Police Department has released the identity of a deceased man who was recovered Tuesday afternoon from Kurth Lake. He is Clay Thomas Legg, 64, of Pollok.
Preliminary autopsy results show the cause of death as drowning, and no foul play is suspected at this time.
The missing man's boat was discovered in a cove Tuesday afternoon. Emergency responders deployed rescue boats and drones in the search area. Divers eventually found Legg's body not far from his boat.

The search for the man, who had fallen from his boat, was a joint effort. Those that aided in the Lufkin Police Department in the incident include the Angelina County Sheriff’s Office, the Nacogdoches County Sheriff's Office divers, Texas Parks and Wildlife Game Wardens, and Ross Motor Sports, who provided the use of a boat and electronic equipment used to detect the body in the water.
Pct. 4 Justice of the Peace Rodney Cheshire ordered the autopsy.
According to the Texas Parks & Wildlife's website, Kurth Lake (Reservoir) is located approximately 6 miles north of Lufkin, near Redland. It has a surface area of 726 acres and a maximum depth of 40 feet. It's a very popular fishing destination, especially for bass and crappie anglers.
Kurth Lake was impounded in 1950.
