Lufkin Toddler Drowns in Pond at Family Easter Gathering
A toddler drowned Sunday evening while at a family gathering in Lufkin, Texas.
According to a media release from the City of Lufkin, police and fire units responded to the incident yesterday in which a 2-year-old child drowned in a pond.

Jacob Reyes, 2, of Lufkin, was found unresponsive in the pond around 7 p.m. in the 500 block of Renfro Drive. This road runs in between East Lufkin Avenue and Ford Chapel Road, just inside Loop 287.
The family immediately began life-saving measures on the boy that were continued by arriving officers and taken over by Lufkin Fire paramedics. Paramedics transported Reyes to a local hospital where he died a short time later.
Detectives with local law enforcement responded to the scene and began an investigation into the incident. It was determined that the drowning was a tragic accident.
It appears the child had been running around the yard with other young family members and was likely chasing a chicken when he fell into the water.
The report did not give any details on how long the toddler had been in the water before being retrieved.
Please keep the boy’s family and friends in your thoughts and prayers. Also, keep all first responders who worked on this incident in your prayers as well.
