Record-Breaking Mutton Busting Night at Angelina Benefit Rodeo!
The Angelina Benefit Rodeo kicked off Wednesday night at the George H. Henderson, Jr. Expo Center in Lufkin.
After the Star Spangled Banner has been played, the first three events at this Lufkin rodeo are saddle-bronc riding, the presentation of the Rodeo Hero (Richard Candeloro). Then, it's time for mutton busting.

I've announced a multitude of mutton busting events over the past 20+ years, but I have never seen so many outstanding rides during one night of competition as I did on Wednesday night.
A Look Back at The 4 Riders Who Scored Over 90 Points
Barrett Bostic of Hudson rode Wooly Nelson for 95 points. His sheep made a beeline all the way to the center of the arena floor, but Barrett stayed on and looked strong.
John Cooper of Zavalla rode Shear Terror for 96 points. His ride was almost a mirror image of Barrett's ride. Cooper had a beautiful ride as he stayed centered on his sheep throughout the ride.
Colt Fletcher of Livingston rode Woolverine for 97 points. His sheep took an immediate right out of the chute gate. Most times when that happens, the sheep just stops, and it doesn't make for a great ride. But Woolverine kept going in front of the gates and then towards the arena barrier. Colt stayed on the entire time for an unorthodox but exciting ride.
Whitten Kendrick of Lufkin rode Dust Bunny for 98 points. His sheep bolted to the middle of the arena, Kendrick staying perfectly centered on the sheep's back. Then, Dust Bunny doubled back around the sheep, but Whitten wasn't letting go, even though he was riding sideways by this time.
