Is Planet Fitness Leaving North Timberland For A Bigger Lufkin Location?

It appears that Planet Fitness in Lufkin will be making a major move. The fitness center has been serving the Lufkin area since 2014, when it opened up in the old H-E-B location behind Ray's Drive-In on North Timberland Drive. However, by the time March 2027 rolls around, Planet Fitness could be upgrading from its current 22,000-square-foot location to a nearly 30,000-square-foot site.

What We Know About Planet Fitness's Possible Move

According to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) website, Planet Fitness has applied to relocate to an existing commercial tenant space at 3047 S. John Redditt Drive in Lufkin. Both Bealls and the closed Conn's location share that address. Since Bealls doesn't appear to be shutting down, it appears that Planet Fitness could be moving into the old Conn's location.

The details on the TDLR website go on to specify that the relocation project will start on October 1, 2026, with an expected completion date of February 28, 2027. The estimated cost of this relocation is $1.5 million.

Angelina Village Shopping Center Continues Its Comeback

This supposed future home of Planet Fitness is a part of the Angelina Village Shopping Center (previously the enclosed Angelina Mall). It used to be home to Kmart, the Angelina Twin Cinema, and Randall's grocery store. The once-thriving multi-market center in Lufkin was mostly vacant for a while, but has been on the rebound with tenants such as Ashley Furniture, Harbor Freight, Atwoods, and Brown's Shoe Fit. Conn's shut down in the Fall of 2024 after the company announced its bankruptcy.

Since the Planet Fitness relocation plans have been filed and made public with the TDLR, it would appear that the popular workout facility will soon have a new home...and we can't weight (pun intended).
