The Polk County Sheriff's Office in Livingston, Texas, is investigating a domestic altercation that led to the death of a Polk County man and the hospitalization of his wife.

The incident took place Sunday evening, April 20, around 8 p.m. According to a post on the Polk County Sheriff's Office Facebook page, law enforcement was dispatched to a home in the Southland Plantation subdivision, which is located a few miles southeast of Livingston.

Officers were responding to a reported domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, deputies discovered an injured female subject. The report states that she had injuries consistent with having been physically assaulted.

Law enforcement also located a man at the residence who had been shot several times in the upper body. The man, who was pronounced deceased at the scene, was identified as the woman's husband

Detectives initiated an investigation and determined that a domestic dispute between the man and woman had escalated from a verbal confrontation to a physical altercation. During the incident, the female party reportedly obtained a small-caliber firearm and discharged multiple rounds, fatally wounding the male subject.

Emergency Medical Service crews responded and transported the female victim to a local hospital. After evaluation and treatment, she was later released.
The Justice of the Peace for Precinct 1 in Polk County conducted an inquest and ordered an autopsy to be performed by the Jefferson County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Detectives from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, in collaboration with the Texas Rangers and the Polk County District Attorney’s Office, are conducting a thorough investigation of this tragic incident.
All findings will be presented to a Grand Jury to determine whether criminal charges will be pursued.
