Check Out These Crazy Deep East Texas Rainfall Totals From Edouard

August 2026 was one of the driest on record for the East Texas Pineywoods. The Angelina County Airport recorded only 0.02" of rain for the month. The first 3 days of September have been a much different story. Tropical Storm Edouard brought needed soaking rains to many in east and southeast Texas, but to some, the tropical system brought record rainfall and catastrophic flooding. In southern Tyler and Hardin counties, reports of over 25 inches of rain in 24 hours were received.

Tropical Storm Edouard Surprises Forecasters

Most every computer model showed a tropical storm landfall somewhere near the Texas/Louisiana border. Edouard was expected to stay on a west-northwest track, bringing the center of the storm and its remnants near the I-45 corridor to near Huntsville and Madisonville. However, the storm edged more to the northwest and eventually northward. This brought the center of Edouard more towards Polk, Trinity, and western Angelina County. The forward movement of the storm also slowed down to a snail's pace.

Put this all together, and you have a much different reality compared to what was forecasted. Originally, Lufkin was supposed to receive about an inch of rain. Thanks to Edouard's altered path, most Wundermap weather stations in Angelina County reported 3-day rain totals of at least 3 inches. Tyler and Polk Counties were hit especially hard with rainfall totals commonly exceeding 1 foot. Here are some rainfall totals from various reporting centers on WunderMap.

Texas Tragedy: Devastating Images from the Texas Hill Country and Guadalupe River Flooding

A tragedy in Texas in Texas continues to unfold as rescue works continue their search to find victims of the flooding in central Texas. The number of deaths continue to rise and are expected to soar past 100 as more bodies are found and identified. Sadly, at least 28 children have been confirmed dead, many who were attending the all-girls Camp Mystic. Most of the fatalities as of this writing have been reported in Kerr County.
