New to Texas? You Might Be Saying These Town Names Wrong
If you are new to Texas, there is a chance that you could get a couple or many of these town pronunciations incorrect! For example, the town of Mexia, Texas! This one gets on my nerves the most. It makes absolutely no sense! First of all, forget that the X exists, because you don't hear it in the pronunciation. Also, It is a Spanish word, however, its pronunciation is not proper Spanish either. The official pronunciation is MEH-HAY-YUH! Sourced from the Texas Almanac. Just in our neck of the woods, we have Cuero, Ganado, Refugio, and Palacios, just to name a few.
