(Longview, Texas) - I do not handle the cold very well in East Texas. If it drops into the 40s, I'm cold. Personally, as crazy as you may think it sounds, I prefer the 90 to 100 degree heat of the summer. I am a miserable lump during the winter months. The extreme heat of the summer presents a danger to certain items if those items are left in a hot vehicle. The same can be said for certain items when it gets cold. There are six items you should never leave in your vehicle during a cold snap.

A Cold Snap in East Texas

Every Christmas we hear the song "White Christmas." It tells the story of wishing for a blanket of snow the morning of Christmas. That has become the illusion for many to make a perfect Christmas morning while opening presents with the family. For us in East Texas, we don't have a white Christmas, we have leaves. There was a Christmas, I believe in 2010 or 2011, when it did snow in East Texas on Christmas day. It wasn't that morning but that afternoon that it began snowing. I remember it because I was driving back from Lindale to Tyler when it started.

Every summer in East Texas can be extremely hot, especially when our car has been parked in that heat for a couple of hours. The heat can be so dangerous inside of our cars that it's not safe for people, pets, groceries, electronics or other items. The same can be said when we have those occasional cold snaps.

Before a Cold Blast

When it does get cold in East Texas, it gets cold. We can get an artic blast that will drop temperatures in the mornings into the 20s or even teens. That's why when we know a cold blast is coming, there are some items that need to be removed from our cars before it hits because they could be damaged, or cause some serious damage, while in our car.

Take These 6 Items Out of Your Car Before an Extreme East Texas Cold Snap

Make sure these items are out of your vehicle or they could be damaged, or damage your car, during a cold snap.
