If you have friends in different parts of the United States, you know how difficult it is to explain the enormity of the Lone Star State. If they live in states to our north they might never understand.

I've had friends that arrive in Dallas, Houston, or Austin and think they will get an Uber and come hang out.  I always like to hit them with fun facts, like how many hundreds of miles they are away from me.

Texas is big, and there is just no getting around that. According to Texas Proud, we are the second largest state in the US with an area of 268,597 square miles.

Alaska Doesn't Count Because It's Not Hospitable

Alaska is the largest state, and 2.5 times larger than Texas, but how much of that is usable or being taxed? Alaska is among the bottom three states when it comes to GDP.

California is making more money, but Texas is 1.65 times larger. Texas would be the world's 9th largest economy if it were a country.

It's in the same range as France, Canada, and Russia. Everything is bigger in Texas.

The Entire World's Population Could Fit In Texas

Texas is such a large land mass we could invite the entire world to "spend the night." We would be just as cramped as New York City, at 27,000 people per square mile. I didn't say we would be comfortable, but it's only for a night.
