Cracking open a soda in the ‘90s and ‘00s was a whole different experience than it is today.

Growing up in Texas, I remember walking down the H-E-B soda aisle like it was an amusement park. There were neon bottles glowing, labels I couldn’t pronounce, and enough sugar to power a small city; somehow, the weirder the drink looked, the more we needed it.

But then, in the blink of an eye, some of the greatest sodas to ever grace H-E-B shelves and Stripes coolers just vanished. No warning, n chance to panic-buy and hoard them like the responsible soda-loving adults we are today.

Here are five discontinued sodas we’re still recovering from:

1️⃣ Surge

This drink was essentially green rocket fuel. Coca-Cola brought it back briefly, then betrayed us again.

2️⃣ Dr Pepper Berries & Cream

We gave Dr Pepper to the world, so explain why WE can’t have the best version? There’s a ton of different varieties of Dr.Pepper, but none will ever replace Berries&Cream.

3️⃣ Big Blue (and Big Red Zero)

Big Blue deserved better than this. A cult favorite in the South, but at least the barbacoa + Big Red combo wasn’t affected.

4️⃣ Vault

Half Mountain Dew, half science experiment. Teens in Texas used Vault as pre-workout before pre-workout existed. Pepperidge Farm remembers..

5️⃣ Sprite Remix

Tropical, Berryclear, the entire lineup was a gas station hit; there’s no telling why this was taken out of rotation.

These drinks powered our GameBoys, but some were just too ahead for their time; either way, we want them back.
