Starbucks Closing Texas Stores, But Victoria Safe for Now
“To those partners who will be leaving, I want to say a profound thank you.”
That’s how many Starbucks employees found out they were losing their jobs. The coffee chain is in the middle of a big makeover, and while some stores are getting upgrades, others are shutting down for good.
Starbucks says it’s about ‘elevating the experience’ — here’s what that really means.
Starbucks says the changes are all about improving the customer experience. The company plans to remodel over 1,000 stores to create a “welcoming space with a seat for every occasion.”
CEO Brian Niccol said the focus is on adding more staff, giving better service, and building new coffeehouse designs. But that also means cutting jobs and closing certain stores along the way.
Even in Victoria, the vibe feels different.

If you’ve stopped by a Starbucks in Victoria lately, you may have noticed things feel different. Drinks are sometimes served in real mugs if you’re staying inside, and pastries may come on plates instead of in a bag.
On one visit, staff were even walking around offering free samples of seasonal drinks — something you don’t see often in a small town. Starbucks clearly wants the experience to feel more like a sit-down café than just a drive-through stop.

For some customers, the remodels are exciting, with more seating, better service, and a cafe feel. But for employees, the closures and layoffs are tough.

In Victoria, the bigger question is this: would you really miss Starbucks if it closed here? Local coffee shops have been growing and offer plenty of cozy spaces, specialty drinks, and a space for different occasions.
If Starbucks closed tomorrow, I’d still stick with a local coffee shop instead.
