New Sam’s Club Shopping Experience To Roll Out in East Texas
(Mix 93-1) A new shopping experience will be coming to Sam's Club locations in Tyler, Longview, and all across Texas and the US.
It hasn't been that long since Sam's Club in Tyler installed three new archways near the store's exit, equipped with cameras that scan the contents of your shopping cart as you exit. This AI technology communicates with the employees at the door to alert them to whether or not you've paid for an item.
I have noticed that since the inception of this, exiting the store has gone much smoother and quicker than when employees were manually scanning random items in the cart.
Sam's Club announces a reimagined member experience
The company announced that it has plans to redesign all 600 stores nationwide and, in the process, will be removing all checkout and self-checkout lanes in the coming years. Customers will check out the items in their shopping carts using the Sam's Club Scan & Go option from the app.

My wife and I started using this feature not too long ago, and it's gone pretty smoothly. When you add an item to your cart, you scan the item's barcode using the app and your phone's camera, and then you're able to 'check out' from the app, which is all tied back to your credit card.
When you're ready to leave, you simply pass through one of the archways, and the employee says Thanks, and have a great day. It's really pretty easy.

Just don't slow up the exit line by trying to hide something under another item and trying to steal it, so that the AI then has to tell the employee to check your cart. That'll slow up the line, and it's just wrong to steal.
Sam's Club has been testing the Scan & Go option exclusively at a Texas club
This concept has been tested for quite some time with a Sam's Club store in Grapevine and has shown to be successful.

During an investors' meeting, Sam's Club President and CEO Chris Nicholas said these changes will help deliver a seamless, elevated experience for shoppers. He went on to say,
This is one of the fastest, most scalable transformations happening in retail today. We’re investing with intention — in our fleet, our associates and the member experience — to become the world’s best club retailer.'
The company doesn't plan to lay anyone off after this change goes into effect. Nicholas says these changes will free up employees to assist customers with their needs and believes a level of service like this will mean members will stay loyal.
The retailer has ambitious plans to open another 30 stores, with bigger goals of opening 15 new stores annually over the coming years.
I'm looking forward to the store redesign, but I will be lost for a while in the store and for everyone to begin using the new checkout method.
