Texas Is Getting the Tallest Family Coaster in America
If you’re already looking to how you’re going to spend your spring break or summer vacation, I think Texas just handed you an answer.
A brand-new roller coaster is about to open at SeaWorld San Antonio, and it’s not just another ride. Barracuda Strike is officially billed as the tallest inverted family coaster in North America, and it opens in time for spring breakers looking for a thrill.

Barracuda Strike will be the park’s eighth coaster, and it’s designed to bring serious thrill without the full “white-knuckle regret” energy.

Here’s what makes it a big deal:
- 90-foot lift hill
- Speeds up to 44 mph
- 1,800 feet of steel track
- Suspended seating with legs dangling
- Minimum rider height: 42 inches
Unlike traditional coasters, inverted rides suspend you beneath the track- so you’re flying over the park’s water ski lake with nothing under your feet but air! It officially debuts on March 7.
It’s also the first major coaster addition since Texas Stingray opened in 2020, meaning Texas thrill-seekers have been due for something new.
Why This Texas Coaster Is Perfect for Spring Break and Summer
The March 7 opening date is not accidental timing. Spring Break crowds are already planning getaways, and Barracuda Strike gives families, friend groups, and younger riders something high-energy without needing to hit 60 inches tall to ride.

With summer just around the corner, it also adds another must-ride attraction to Texas’ growing coaster scene- especially for anyone planning a San Antonio weekend.
It’s intense enough to feel like a thrill ride, but approachable enough that younger siblings aren’t stuck holding everyone’s phones at the exit!
Barracuda Strike proves you don’t need to be a hardcore adrenaline junkie to get in on the action.
This Spring Break, Texas families can dangle their feet 90 feet in the air, glide over a lake, and call it a weekend!
