El Paso, TX Just Got Its First Measles Case in 2025
Welp, it’s official. El Paso has joined the measles chat. *Cries in Spanish*

Well, it looks as if El Paso, TX is now joining the list of confirmed measles cases because according to an online news article by El Paso Matters, William Beaumont Army Medical Center confirmed the city’s first case tied to the growing outbreak sweeping through West Texas and the Panhandle.
According to the article, The patient checked in at Fort Bliss’ Mendoza Soldier Family Care Center last Friday. No word yet on vaccination status.
El Paso hasn’t seen a measles outbreak since 2019, but this latest case is a reminder that prevention matters. Big time. Especially since, according to Maj. Lacy Male, Army public health nurse,
“There’s no cure for measles, just supportive care.”
Translation: Vaccines work, y’all!!!!
Army health officials have already kicked off contact tracing and notified state and local public health peeps. Meanwhile, four measles cases have also popped up just across the border in Juárez. Yeah, it’s getting real close.
Since January, more than 500 measles cases have been reported across Texas, mostly in communities with low vaccination rates. Three people—including two kids—have already died this year from the disease in Texas and New Mexico.
So how contagious is measles? Think: one sick person can infect up to 9 out of 10 unvaccinated people just by being nearby. Yep, it’s that aggressive.
