Leon County Sheriff: Capital Murder Escapee Has Been Captured
UPDATE 11 p.m. - According to a post on the Pleasanton Express, a police chase near Poteet, Texas ended in Jourdanton (about 20 miles south of San Antonio) with a shootout with the suspected escapee. Here is a link to the updated stories and on site video
According to a post on the Leon County Sheriff's Facebook Page, Gonzalo Artemio Lopez has been captured. No details have been released concerning his capture.
Lopez has been missing since May 12 after escaping from a bus near Centerville, Texas. A concentrated manhunt took place, but he was never found.
Earlier this evening, a report from the Leon County Sheriff's Facebook Page gave the grim news that the dead bodies of 3 children and 2 adults were found within the original search area. Lopez is believed to be tied with this crime.
This was the original post from this evening:
** 5 bodies were discovered within the search area of the escaped inmate. This investigation is still ongoing, as soon as we have more information we will get it out. There is no sign that he has left this area as of this moment.
Leon County Sheriff’s Office is currently working alongside multiple agencies in the search for this White Chevy Pickup- LP DPV4520. There is heavy traffic on Hwy 7, please avoid the area, roadblocks are set up.
