As many of you know, Long John Silver's in Lufkin closed down several years ago and has been sitting vacant ever since. In July, I put up a post about Lufkin bringing back Long John Silver's. This week, that comeback process actually started.

Demolition Takes Place at Long John Silver's

When I drove by 1112 South Timberland Drive in Lufkin earlier this week, I was surprised to see a lot of movement taking place, and the former Long John Silver's restaurant being torn down.

This is what I'm talking about:

As you can see, aside from a few of the old LJS signs, there's nothing left and they are going to be starting this construction project from scratch.

Timeline for New Long John Silver's in Lufkin

According to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation website, this project was supposed to start on September 7th. It looks like they missed the starting date by a few days. However, the projected completion date is January 19, 2027. If they keep the same pace building that they had with demolition, there shouldn't be an issue with having construction completed by that date.

This is a welcome addition to South Timberland Drive, considering that the old LJS building had pretty much fallen into total disrepair. The new building follows the lead of other new/renovated buildings along the same road, including HTeaO, Taco Bell, McDonald's and Popeye's, among others.

Maybe once the Long John Silver's construction is complete, someone will bring in a Waffle House. Hey, a guy can dream, right?
