Shipley Do-Nuts is the go-to place to grab some fresh donuts in Deep East Texas. We apparently can't keep all that flakey, sugar-coated goodness to ourselves.

As Texans, we have learned to live with sharing Buc-ees and Whataburger with the rest of the United States, and now they have come calling for our best breakfast franchise.

We are really close here in East Texas to where Shipley Do-Nuts started in Houston. They already have 330 locations in 10 states, including some as far away as Tennessee.

Shipley Do-Nuts Celebrates 85 Years Of Making Life Delicious

Though Shipley Do-Nuts didn't start in East Texas, they expanded here from Houston very quickly. Growing up in Lufkin they were just always here.

Shipley Do-Nuts was acquired by Peak Rock Capital in 2021. Now they are going to aggressively expand and double the number of restaurants they have in the next 5 years.

According to the Houston Chronicle, they will open 25 new stores in Maryland and 25 in the Atlanta area, the first of which will be open by the end of 2022.

Shipley Do-Nuts Going Head To Head With Dunkin And Krispy Kreme

Nacogdoches has a Dunkin', but there are no Krispy Kreme locations in our area. These new places that they are expanding to, much like Houston, will have even more competition.

Hopefully our native Texas brand will continue to rise to the top of the breakfast food chain, while doubling its footprint. I'm sure when the original owners, Lawrence Shipley Sr. and his wife, Lillie, opened the first restaurant back in 1936, they had no idea what it would become.
