Lufkin Police Respond to Another Southwood Drive Shooting
For the second time in less than a week, Lufkin Police responded to reports of shots fired in the Southwood Drive area. On Sunday afternoon, officers responded to the roughly the same area. Investigators were unsure whether the first shooting on Sunday was the result of road rage, but given the details of this latest shooting, Lufkin Police believe this is not the case.
According to a release from the Lufkin Police Department, around 8 p.m. Tuesday night, officers were called to the Southwood Drive area for a report of shots fired. Once in the area, officers made contact with a man in a vehicle who said someone in a dark grey Nissan Altima with black wheels shot at his vehicle. During the on scene investigation, officers noted that his rear fender appeared to have been shot. Thankfully, he and his passenger were not injured in the incident.
The man, who lives in the area, is the same person who reported being shot at near the intersection of Southwood Drive and Wildbriar Drive on Sunday afternoon. Officers were initially unsure if that incident was motivated by road rage or something else. Given the incident last night, officers now believe that incident was not related to road rage and was not a random act. Investigators also do not believe the incident last night was a random act either.
The incident remains under investigation and anyone with information is asked to call the Department at 936-633-0356 or Crime Stoppers at 936-639-TIPS. Callers to Crime Stoppers may remain anonymous if they chose.
