Lufkin’s Vacant Store Gets A Vibrant New Life With Manzano’s
It wasn't that long ago that Brookshire Brothers had three locations in Lufkin. There was one on Frank Avenue, one on Chestnut Street, and one on Timberland Drive. Then a few years ago, the Timberland Drive location shut down, and the Brookshire Brothers logos were removed from the building.
After sitting vacant for several months, the building was repainted, and new signage was put up across the front - "Manzano's Meat Market #2 Carniceria Y Taqueria". Naturally, I was curious, along with lots of others, about this new store, since it had the "#2" on it. I knew that there wasn't a store with this name in our area already, and I didn't know anything about it.

The Original Manzano's Meat Market is in Houston
After Googling the name of the store, I found an Instagram account. Apparently, the original Manzano's is in Houston at 525 East Little York Road. Lufkin seems kind of a random choice for the next store in the chain, but new business is new business, so it's pretty exciting for Lufkin. Plus, the old Brookshire Brothers building is no longer sitting vacant, so it's an aesthetic plus for the city, too.
I'm Curious About the Opening Date...
I haven't heard or read any details about an opening date for this new Lufkin addition. I can, however, say that there have been vehicles at the location daily, with workers coming in and out. Maybe they're hoping for a New Year's opening date, or at least an early 2026 date. Either way, this looks to be a welcome addition to Lufkin.
