Metallica kicked off the North American leg of its WorldWired tour tonight in Baltimore, Maryland, performing an 18-song set in front of a stage dominated by five massive video screens.

The set list included five tracks from their new Hardwired … to Self-Destruct LP, their 10th studio album, and first in eight years. It was also marks their sixth consecutive record to debut at No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard 200.

The last time Metallica played a slate this extensive was six years ago for the World Magnetic Tour. They made stops in Puerto Rico and Latin America last year.

Kirk Hammett confirmed back in December that Metallica would be making this long-awaited return to the States. "It's been a long time since we've done a proper American tour," he said. "We've done European tours, Asian tours, South American tours — relatively recently — but we have not done a proper American tour as of late, so we're very, very excited about it, and we're very excited to be able to do it playing new songs."

On Sunday, the band played it's final rehearsal at the same venue, M&T Bank Stadium, in front of a few hundred friends while also streaming it on Facebook Live to raise money for charity. The event, called “Now That We’re Live” in honor of “Now That We’re Dead,” the latest single from Hardwired, was a benefit for Metallica's recently unveiled All Within My Hands Foundation.

All tickets purchased come with a physical and digital copy of the record. The tour will continue overseas, keeping them on the road until mid-2018.
