SFA Graduation Is Here And So Is The Traffic Jam
In Nacogdoches, we're quite proud to claim Stephen F. Austin State University as our own. Why wouldn't we be? It brings new people to the city, it provides awesome events like basketball games, football games, theater performances, concerts, etc. It quite literally helps Nacogdoches thrive. However, it does bring about one thing that we locals aren't fans of...
The One Drawback of SFA
Having a university in town does bring the "joys" of traffic into the mix. Even in a smaller city like Nacogdoches, the influx of people means that the streets are packed. I realize that even at it's worst, the traffic that is in Nacogdoches is nothing compared to San Antonio, Houston, the DFW Metroplex, or any number of our other large cities in Texas. However, that's one of the main reasons that I don't live in one of those areas.
It may not be on the same level as the traffic troubles in a major city, but it is an inconvenience to Nacogdoches residents. It does extend normal commute times, changes plans, and brings the potential for traffic accidents. Whenever students are in town, the traffic is worse. However, this weekend will be even more chaotic.

Get Ready for SFA Graduation
This Thursday and Friday, December 11th and 12th, will be the graduation days for SFA. According to the SFA website, one ceremony will be held on Thursday evening at 6:00 PM, and there will be two ceremonies on Friday - one at 2:00 PM and one at 6:00 PM. Keep in mind, you might be able to get your errands and everything done during one of the ceremonies. But, anytime before, in-between, or directly after the ceremonies will be a bit crazy on the roads of Nacogdoches.
In my opinion, the best practice would be to stay indoors on those days if possible, and if you just have to get out, best of luck to you!
