A Look Back At Lufkin’s Beloved Pie Five Pizza Experience
I can say with pretty high confidence that most people are fans of pizza. I can also say with confidence that most people don't agree on their favorite type of pizza. Some are fans of supreme. Some prefer meat-lovers. Some prefer cheese. Some - who are wrong - prefer pineapple on their pizza. These differences in opinion is what makes places with buffet-style options so popular, because everyone can get what they want.
Now, with that being said, there was also another, non-buffet-style option that used to be in Lufkin. Do any of you remember that? It was called Pie Five.
What Was Pie-Five?
Pie Five was located at 4415 South Medford Drive in Lufkin, in what is currently Roost, a restaurant specializing in chicken salad. Roost is actually the second restaurant to occupy the space since Pie Five left.

Pie Five was similar to a Chipotle or a Subway, only they specialized in pizza. Your pizza would be assembled in front of you, ingredient by ingredient, then at the end of the line it would be put in the pizza oven to bake. It was a magnificent setup! Especially if you had people that were very specific about their pizzas...
Short-Lived With a Large Impact
Pie Five wasn't in Lufkin very long at all - I want to say less than two years. But, during that time, it seemed to have quite the following. It was quick, so you didn't have to change up plans a lot to go there. You could go, order, dine-in, and still wouldn't have taken up the entire evening. Or, you could get it to go, and it was even quicker!
Now that I look back on it, I realize how much I miss that pizza place...I had hoped that when they closed down, it was just for a relocation. However, I was wrong. They were shutting down for good. Now, I find myself still hoping for a comeback...
