Refused have released a galloping new tune called "Chippin' In," but the post-hardcore barn burner isn't from the Swedish punk pioneers' upcoming effort, their expected second album since last reuniting five years ago.

No, it's from the soundtrack of a new video game called Cyberpunk 2077, and it's not even technically a tune by Refused. It's being presented as a song by their musical alter-ego outfit, Samurai, a seemingly virtual band the quartet created with the developer behind the game, CD Projeckt. But that doesn't mean a new Refused record isn't just around the corner. Maybe. Hear "Chippin' In" down toward the bottom of this post.

"We're incredibly excited to reveal the first taste of our collaboration with our new friends in CD Projekt Red for their upcoming game Cyberpunk 2077," Refused shared Tuesday (July 2). "It was a pleasure working with them to create the songs for the band Samurai, and we can't wait for you to hear what else we worked on with them."

They added, "As for new Refused... who knows, maybe that is coming sooner than you think!"

Earlier this year, frontman Dennis Lyxzen shared his satisfied if not-so-cheery outlook on that imminent new Refused album. It'll be the follow-up to their 2015 comeback Freedom, which was their first in 17 years.

“We have a new record that's almost done — not quite," he said. "It's been one of those, in typical Refused fashion, it's just been going on for a long time and no one's enjoying the process of making the record and it's been kind of grueling. But we're almost at the finishing line, which feels great. It feels like it's gonna be a really fantastic record."
